The vibes changed October 1st and we are not complaining. Fall brings a new excitement to the city and everyone can feel it.
Take advantage of all the local farms surrounding Philly that are still offering apple picking and pumpkin’ picking. These farms also crank out fresh baked goods like the infamous apple cider donuts and fresh pressed apple cider. They also offer such fun fall activities to experience with family or friends, and a lot of them have live music on the weekends, fun boozy drinks, beer gardens, and yummy food trucks. Its the best of both worlds and doesn’t get much better than this!
Right outside the city in Media, PA is Linvilla Orchards! This farm has apple picking available and of course every type of gourd you can imagine! They also offer some fun family activities like apple slingshots, hayrides, and pony rides and have they have a beer garden in the orchard with locally hard brewed cider!
Shady Brook Farm is a little further outside the city. There is so much going on at this farm it would be hard not stay all day into the night! They offer old fashion wagon rides and pick your own apples at Shady Brook Farm from Wednesdays through Sundays. Pick your own pumpkins with the family and then hit the corn maze. Live music plays all day on the weekend in their patio area where you can watch the kids play on the playground while you enjoy some food and drinks. Once the sun starts to set, reserve yourself a fire pit and take the kids to see the spooky Halloween light show!
Just over the bridge in New Jersey is Hill Creek Farm. They have an incredible market with fresh apple cider donuts, fresh pressed cider, delicious homemade baked goods, and a variety of other local farm fresh jams, honey, produce, etc.! Their market is truly incredible and their pumpkin selection is great! They also have fun fall family activities perfect for kids. Take the kids on a train ride, walk the interactive corn maze, or let them explore the playground. They also have lots of fall “decor” for all you fall decorators out there! Make sure to check out the wine garden which supports a local winery offering a fall inspired apple wine!
Side note- my favorite thing about visiting these farms are the corn mazes. They can be so challenging, so if you can finish and have to take the emergency exit don’t worry. But it is so fun no matter who you are with and it can easily be turned into a fun game with whoever you’re with by splitting up into teams and seeing who can finish first!
Make sure to visit their websites or social media account for more details about their farms and events! Fall in and around Philadelphia is a great time of year.
